NAPL FAQ1) What is the format? 8-ball, 9-ball or both? How does it work? The game is 8-ball. League play will begin at 7pm on Wednesday nights. Each team consists of 5-8 players. Five players will play each night and whichever team wins three or more matches, wins the night. Each week, the NAPL staff will update the standings. If two teams have the same record, the team with the highest winning percentage based on racks won, will be ranked higher. The top teams in each division, plus a lucky wildcard team, will compete in the playoffs! 2) How much will it cost...membership and weekly dues? The membership fee is $25 per player, per season and weekly dues are $50 per team ($10/player for 5 players). 3) Why $25 per player per season and $10 per player every week for 5 players? Our goal is to reward the players and pay them well for their efforts. The more teams we get, the more we’ll pay! 4) Who can join? How does the ranking system work? There are 7 different skills levels. These levels range from a Rookie = 2 points up to a Grand Master = 8 points. The maximum points allowed per league night will not exceed 25 points. Anyone from a beginner to an advanced player can join the league. Sorry but you big dogs considered Pro players are not allowed. (The word Amateur is in the title in case you hadn’t noticed). We recognize that the bar table is the great equalizer. Players will be evaluated based on their bar table skills for handicapping. Players that have no ranking reference will be evaluated by the NAPL staff and ranked as best as possible. Rankings will be adjusted throughout the season as players show improvement. 5) Where do we play?League play will be in bars throughout Manhattan. And hey, if there is a special bar near and dear to your heart (and/or apartment or workplace) that you’d like to play out of and they are not an NAPL bar already, please let us know so that we can do everything possible to bring them aboard. 6) What are the prizes and awards going to be...how will the prize money trickle down? This league was designed for you “THE PLAYER” and I believe that the players deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. This is why we will be awarding cash and great prizes at the end of every season. The more participants we have the more money and prizes will be awarded so “spread the word”. We’d appreciate it! 7) What are the rules going to be like?We will be playing with the official NAPL rules created by Tony Robles and other fellow players to make the league as fair as possible. They will be similar to most of the 8-ball rules players are already familiar with such as ball-in-hand and calling all shots. (Sorry but no more lucky shots for you!).8) Why should I join?Pool is a sport everyone can enjoy and it’s a great way to get together with friends, co-workers, family and teammates to compete, let loose and get your game on during the week. Its fun, it’s exciting, it’s competitive and anyone can win whether you’re a beginning or an avid player so don’t be afraid to join. 9) How do I sign up?If you haven’t already, please sign up for our email list on the homepage. This way we can keep you up to date on all the latest news for the league. Then, do you have a bar in mind? If you are a frequent customer and/or know the staff, feel free to ask them if they’re interested in hosting your bar team for the NAPL. Otherwise, simply provide us with the name of your requested bar, and maybe a few others you’d be interested in and we’ll do all the talking. Once you know what bar you can play out of and you’ve got a team together, each player must complete the individual player membership applications and the team captain must have the bar/team agreement forms signed, pay your membership dues and you’re ready to start the season! 10) But what if I don’t have a team? Can I still join?Of course you can! There are plenty of teams out there that love to meet new people and are looking for a great guy/girl just like you. Let us know that you’re looking for a team to join and we’ll be your Pool eHarmony matchmaker. |
